    Hi Doug,

     

    Leads and Contacts are both standard Salesforce objects, but both serve slightly different purposes in the sales process. Leads represent people who initially contacted you and you haven ot yet qualified - once you've understood and qualified the lead, you can convert it into an Account, Contact, and Opportunity.

     

    Both serve a useful purpose. Leads allow you to quickly get rid of customers who did not pass the qualification stage, and contacts can be used to create a list of contact people at each of your customers.

     

    So with all this being said, I guess my question is why you would feel the need to merge contacts and leads into one?
