The Assessors are supposed to be able to launch a form on the community called Assessment and then on the "Official being Assessed" field (Lookup to Participant) they should be able to lookup a Participant (Custom Object with tab).
On a desktop/laptop, the lookup field works just fine.
On an iphone or ipad, the assessment form is available but the lookup field to participant does not return any records. I have tried both chrome and safari browsers on my ipad and neither work.
I have tried the same userID directly logging into the community on all three platforms, and the desktop/laptop lookup works but ipad/iphone doesn't. (ruling out permissions)
I have also tried "Log into Community as User" for other assessors and I get the same result - lookup field works on laptop not ipad/iphone.
Any hints?

Is the form built using the lightning:recordEditForm component? That's the only time I have come across this issue. According to this article, the lookup type is supported in Lightning Experience only:
