Hello, Nathan, I'm guessing you meant to write, "What if the user does not enter a contact as a contact role ?" Sadly I don't think you can do this with the out-of-the-box Contact Role feature for Contracts. Instead, what you could do is create your own custom Contract Contact Role object, as a detail in a Master-Detail(Contract) relationship.
This way, you'll be able to use a cross-filter in your Contracts reports to isolate contracts without contact roles.
