We have a custom object called Academic Semesters. On the Academic Semester object, there are several fields involved: Period (picklist - Fall, Spring); Academic Year (date - YYYY); Year/Period (formula - returns YYYY.01 for Spring and YYYY.03 for Fall).
It looks like this:
Record Name || Period || Academic Year || Year/Period
Fall 2015 - Austin Community College || Fall || 2015 || 2015.03
Spring 2016 - Austin Community College || Spring || 2016 || 2016.01
Fall 2016 - Austin Community College || Fall || 2016 || 2016.03
Is it possible to create a formula to number the objects "Fall 1" or "Fall 2" or "Spring 1" according to Year/Period? If not, how can I go about trying to create an ordinal "counting system" for our Academic Semester object?
I don't mind clarifying if any clarification is necessary!

can you clarify what exactly you want to see? As you said fall 1 or fall 2 but in your description its not stated . And what and where do you want to calculate?
