We have a new area of business that will be looked after by a specific group of users.  I want these users (call them Externals) to ONLY be able to see those items with a record type of A.

Everybody else should be able to see the records they currently view, which are controlled by complex sharing rules.  I'm struggling to work out how I restrict these External users to only be able to view the leads, accounts, contacts and opportunities on record type A.  We don't want them to view any other elements of the business.

Has anyone got any ideas please?

    Hi Sara,

As you mentioned that already have sharing rules in place. so you can extend them to share specific (based on record type) records to EXTERNAL users.

    For example

    Account - OWD - Private

Then add a sharing rule (Criteria Based) that will share records where Record Type = A to the GROUP/ROLE etc.

You can create a group and add all external users to this group.

Let us know if this helps.
