I just added a large number of Chatter Free users as an admin and missed the "generate passwords and notify user via email" check box. Will it still notify the users and generate passwords - or do I have to reset everyone's passwords to let them know? Seems like I shouldn't have to check a box to have the system notify them if they had an account created.

When you say you missed the checkbox did you notice whether or not it was checked by default anyway? If it was unchecked it definitely will not have issued passwords. Is there anyway you can reach-out to one of the recipients and ask if they have had the email?
