Hi,

I have two objects linked with a Master detail relationship.

I need the two objects to have different sharing rules.

My idea was to convert the Master Detail relationship back to a vLookup and then create different sharing rules.

The problem I face is that despite having permanently deleted all the Roll-Up summary fields on the parent object I still don't see the "Change field type button".  Does anyone know why?

Trying to find another way to achieve my objective I though about deleting the Master detail field  and then undelete it (this is supposed to convert it to a vlookup) unfortunately the field is being referenced in classes, Formulas, trigger and Workflow field updates, this prevent deletion.

I thought about creating a vlookup, populate it with the value from the Master detail field, update the classes, Formulas, trigger and Workflow field updates to use this vlookup and then delete the Master Detail field but I can't see how I would be able to deploy in production.

  • the test classes will fail if the Master detail field is not populated

  • I will not be able to delete the field if it is referenced in the test class.

Has someone faced the same issue?

I tried all the combos I can think of and the 'Change Field Type' button comes and goes as expected.  Click on the field name, then click Edit.

Just to confirm, you deleted all the Rollups, and don't have any Workflow Rules or Field Updates on these objects?  Also, you don't have any other Lookup() or Master-Detail() relationships on that object.
