Hi,

What are some best practises to do when a sales rep resigns? traditionally we would simply split up all leads, accounts (along with contacts and opportunities) to the other sales reps and deactivate the account for the resigned rep. Our problem is that we lose accurate sales data on our reps for the past, since they now have sales from the resigned rep in their name and adding to their numbers.

Any ideas on what to do?

This is a tough one as it depends on how your business and sales organizations operate. In my experiene, I've handled it a couple different ways:

    - First, always deactivate the user account

    - Keep the Leads/Contacts/Accounts/Opps/Cases/etc assigned to that person until there is a replacement, at which point you would transfer the ownership to the new user.

    - Splitting the territory up amongst other sales reps in the interim. This can be tricky depending on if/how you have Roles set up in your org. The easiest would be to divvy up based on location and transfer any records based on State or Zip, for example. I have, however, run into issues where these fields weren't standardized or required.. yikes.

If you choose the 2nd way, you are correct that it won't keep the historical data in line with the new territories and will skew the numbers... it is frustrating when sales territories constantly change, but one option I found was to run reports on geographical territories instead of by owner. Would that work for you?
