To add members to a campaign do I use Add Mem under campaign or add an opp to th

If I have just a handful of contacts I want to add to a campaign, should I go to the Campaign tab and add members OR should I go to the Opportunity record and click the Add to Campaign button that is under Campaign Influence?

 

Will these two methods track differently in the "Campaign statistics"?

 

For example, I had a campaign set up, I had a long list of members already associated with it, I manually added one opportunity to be influenced by the campaign by clicking the Add to Campaign button on the Opportunity tab. I then checked under Campaigns and my statistics did not change -- so that new record did not "count" in the statistics.

 

What am I missing?
