This is a question for others who are using call centers integrated with Salesforce. We started using a Shortel call center a couple years ago, and as it has ramped up and is getting more calls, I'm hitting real data storage challenges. Every phone call made - incoming or outgoing - is stored as an activity record at 2K each. Even if they're an internal "call" to the overhead paging system. So the volume of data being created every day is significant. Every so often, I'm having to go run a delete job to get rid of the internal calls (which are the only ones I can identify in bulk as not needed), but I'm still hitting our data storage limits faster every time. We went ahead and purchased some more storage, but I think it's just a matter of time before it happens again.

How are other companies handling this automated creation of TONS of records just from their phone system? Is there a configuration step somewhere that might reduce this? Are we using it wrong? I'm a solo admin, with absolutely no backup, and the call center was put in by consultants who maybe weren't the best at doing call centers. So I have no support for this aspect of our instance. I'd love to hear how other companies are handling this!

Yes buying more data is more costly. One of our client doing the same thing he takes the data backup for older call history from activities and there was a scheduler to remove the data on certain parameters. So using this you will never hit the data limit storage.
