I know where to change on a custom object, but standard object like Quote or Account or Opportunity?

As far as I am aware you canly change the label of the standard tabs but users do not have any options of changing the tab styles for standard tabs.
Visualforce pages might be an solution but not sure if they can be used for standard objects.
