Hi
I posted the below comment to another group and was referred to this one. I did get something of an answer to my questions but I am still keen to know if anyone knows what the future is for Gold Partner licenses. Like if there is going to be a cut off point for using them?

We have a number of Gold Partner license Partner Portal users. Both on the standard Gold Partner user profile and our custom one, there is no check box option for Lightning Experience User (e.g. as found under Administrative Permissions). Presently our sandbox has switched to Lightning but our partner portal user still see the portal in classic view. We are a small company and will incur a relatively heavy overhead to switch our partners (e.g. training, marketing material) over to lightning.
Does anyone know what the future holds for Gold Partner users? Will they ever get the checkbox option for Lightning Experience User?
I have looked for answers and not found any. We are even in the process of renewing licenses and our Renewals Manager has linked us to this forum, claiming not to know the answers.

Hi Chris, This forum is for customers in the Auto-Transition program which is different than the Turn On Lightning Experience Critical Update. Our Partner Portals are Salesforce Classic only and will not be moved to Lightning Experience. Our Communities product is the Lightning Experience version of our Partner Portal but it is not required for your internal org to be on Lightning.
Thus, your Sandbox has switched to Lightning Experience for your internal org as a result of the sandbox preview for the Turn On Lightning Experience Critical Update.

Based on the answer so far received from Jenea. I also wonder what type of Communities licence matches for Partner Portal functionality?
Also if these licenses can switched upon a user, that is to keep record ownership per user, replacing the user's Partner Portal licence with it's equivalent Communities license?
Thanks
"Our Partner Portals are Salesforce Classic only and will not be moved to Lightning Experience." - So does this mean that we will always have some element of Classic in our environment? When we transition the rest of our org to Lightning, we'll have to manage two different UIs going forward?
