In role hierarchy (referencing the slide), is it one role for director or separate roles for US director and EMEA director?

Separate roles. The US director would have people working for them that they need access to their records, not necessarily the records of the EMEA sales team. For roles at the same level of the hierarchy, we need to use sharing rules to go horizontal in the Org chart. In any salesforce exam, anytime the question references anything to do with an Org chart ('...Sue works for the Director of Sales..), think Role Hierarchy and you will be correct.
