My best tip for Lightning beginners is to just do it! I started with Salesforce begin November and I already start to get used to the platform. There is so much that Salesforce can do, but you just have to go for it! On Trailhead there is so much handy information that you can read before you begin. For using Lightning there is a good tool that Salesforce created called: Lightning Experience Migration Assistant! This can help you a lot in the road to Lightning.
