Hi all,

I have a tableau sever 6 nodes cluster on window VMs,

the url currently is http://server1 pointing to the initial node in the cluster. server1 is also the name of the initial node's machine.

I'm trying to change the url name http://server1 to a more generic url like http://team1 which doesnt rely on the VM's name. We're trying to remove server1 VM from the cluster as well.

I'm not sure how the url was initially set up. I changed the url in :

configuration > notifications > tableau server URL

and also with tsm set configuration -k gateway.public host

but nothing changed. I think I'm looking at the wrong settings.

My question is " Is it possible to change the url to a custom one ? and how?"

There is currently no load balancer in front of the cluster ( yet ).

and Should I change back those 2 settings I did ?

Is it something I can do within tableau or do I need to get networking team involved to somehow reroute the new url to the old url ?

Thanks in advance!

Best,

Bo

Hi, basically you would need to involve your network team on this. They need to add a forward rule or a DNS record so that they can point http://team1 to the ip of your initial node.

As in my past answers, the best option is to have a load balancer, so that http://team1 points to the Load Balancer IP, and then the Load Balancer reroute the request to the different nodes with a Gateway service.

If this post resolves the question, would you be so kind to "Select as Best"?. This will help other users find the same answer/resolution and help community keep track of answered questions. Thank you.
