I know it says that it only works with the Outlook Web App right now, but will it ever work with the desktop (full) version of Outlook? Or are we supposed to have both Salesforce for Outlook to handle the syncing of records added on the "desktop" version of Outlook AND Exchange Sync to handle the sync of things added on your phone/tablet? Can anyone explain the thought process behind how Exchange Sync is supposed to work for people who are still using laptops with Outlook installed locally?

Hey Janet - This was covered at a recent Salesforce user group in my area. What I gathered is that, for now, both are likely needed by your org. It seems that Exchange Sync was designed initially for Contacts and Events, with other records and email sync capability coming later (safe harbor :) ) It is a mobile-user focused release.
