Hi NPSP Community,

Any advice about how I can relate at the Account level a 1) household to the 2) foundation or DAF account that the household uses as a giving vehicle?

I am familiar with the Affiliations approach, through which shared Contacts are visible on the foundation Account record Affiliated Contacts related list and the Organization Affiliation displays as a related list on the Contact records.

Our development team wants to see that connection directly on the Household and DAF/Foundation account records. Also, ideally NPSP or DLRS rollups would make it possible to see combined giving history. And opportunities for the linked accounts could be displayable or reportable.

A little AI sleuthing suggests that Account Hierarchy is not a solution and that a custom Account-to-Account relationship object is the way to go.  I wanted to check in with folks here for other alternatives before going any further.

Thanks in advance for any insight and wisdom!

We've gone a different route and we have a lookup field directly on the Opportunity called Financial Institution (to the Organization account) for that gift. We found that some households have more than one IRA/DAF holder and it was best to be able to distinguish that info, especially for acknowledgements. This also allows us to run reports by Financial Institution with dollar amounts and quantity of giving for each. The number of DAF/IRA gifts has exploded so we're also trying to figure out the best way to handle these in bulk.
