I am trying to pick back up a TWB that has one connection, to a simple XLSX file. The file has one sheet named Sheet1.

When I open the TWB by double-clicking on it, I get this error:Error 00BF554A when reopening TWB that has one connection to an XLSX file

This is what I get when I hit Copy Error Message:

Unable to complete action

One or more connections in this data source need attention:

Error Code: AB9D5A55

Missing connection name in relation

Unable to create extract

I am then sent into file recovery:image.png

I have opened the TWB in a text editor and have confirmed that the connection element shows the correct file path and sheet name.

Through some button presses I cannot reproduce, I was at one point able to see all of my visualizations, and they were populated with data. But if I went to the Data Sources tab, I got a similar error as above. That the visualizations were all populated with data seems to confirm that my data source is good.

I am running Tableau Public 2026.2.2 on macOS. The only thing that I have changed since creating this file was upgrading from 2026.2.1 to 2026.2.2.

I suspect the file recovery dialog was a red herring. It may have referred to some prior workbook that I didn't save properly. We can ignore that.

The problem is when I get the error mentioned at top, about a data source connection, I don't see how to get into my workbook at all.

When I X-out that dialog, I get this next:

I suspect the file recovery dialog was a red herring. It may have referred to some prior workbook that I didn't save properly. We can ignore that.

And there, I immediately see an obvious problem, a reference to e .hyper file. Not only did I never use a .hyper file for this workbook, hyper files are not even supported in Tableau Public!

    If I use the

Deactivate the extract option, I get a second dialog with another arcanely-named .hyper file. I deactivate that one, too, and I land on the screent hat invites me to open a file or connect to a data source:image.png

This makes no sense. All I connected to was an Excel data source. I never used a .hyper file. I should not need to deactivate any connections. I should see my workbook, not this screen.
