Using OEM product on Salesforce that has a custom master/detail object scenario that is tricky for me to report on.
The Master object is like an invoice object. On this object, there are fields for what I would call a base charge – call it a monthly service charge. Then, there is a related detail record that allows you to associate additional, independent line item like charges (think of them as extra charges).
When building a report using these two objects, I might get something like this where Daily Rate, Days, and Monthly Service Charge come from fields on the Master object and Line Item and Charge fields come from the detail record(s).
In the case of Jim, there is one Master record and one detail record (the pay-per view charge for Dune - $6). The Total Invoice field is on the master record and totals the monthly service charge and all of the line item charges from the detail record(s) In Jim’s case, $56 + $6 = $62.
In the case of Bob, his Total invoice is $42 + $6 + $3 = $51 (means 1 master record and two detail records)
When reported this way, it can be quite confusing to look at.
I would prefer to have something more like below so that I don’t have repeated lines and can have subtotals in the groupings of the customer.
Given the relationship of these two objects, I have not found a way to do this. Maybe there’s a way with a joined report? I’ve thought about trying some wizardry with a formula field but in the Jim example, I can’t think how I would create an entirely 2nd row from only 1 row. A Formula field to me would display a value on the given row…it wouldn’t magically create a whole new row for me.
Maybe the only way to do this is have an additional custom object?
Any thoughts or help is much appreciated!
