Hi folks:

I am defining my first pipeline in SF. Prospecting->Qualifying->Presenting->Evaluating->Closing.

The question I have is whether I should have both CLOSE WON and CLOSE LOST stages instead of a single CLOSING stage.

I tried to understand whether there should be two. Googling this only comes up with articles that say you need to track or LOST and WON separately in order to track some success metrics.

So before I go too far down the road, should I expand my Pipeline (Stages) To have CLOSE WON and CLOSE LOST?

If I do make two, and an Opportunity progresses in the sales process, does this mean that the opportunity that is put into CLOSE WON will always be waiting to progress to CLOSE LOST?

I'm new to setting this up here. It makes more sense to me to have a single CLOSING stage that has some kind of PICKLIST of either WON or LOST.  But then, I could see that there are different processes (activities/tasks) that should take place if a deal is WON vs. if it's LOST.

So it's more than just identifying WIN / LOST metrics, but ensuring that closing processes for either deals that are WON or those that are LOST can take place. (And by processes, I mean workflows. For example, upon LOST Deal, perhaps Sales Manager should follow-up with account, identify why the deal was lost, send out a or do a survey (price too high, wrong fit, etc.)

So:

One CLOSING Stage. Or TWO: Close (Won), Close (Loss).

Advice please. Thanks in advance.
