"Profile A" has in the Object Settings EDIT-RIGHTS for this custom field.
"Profile A" has a page layout assigned where this custom field is NOT read-only.
But a user with this "Profile A" is not able to edit this field.
Why?

Hi Oliver,
Go To Object Manager-> Object
Go to Field and Relation ship.
Open field. Click on Fields and Relationships.
Click on Field Level Security button.
Field should be visible for Profile and not read only
