I hope nobody minds me posting a blogpost of mine in these groups, but it's about a lesser known feature which can save a huge amount of time and which was hard for me to find in the help and training. I just want everybody to know that this feature exists ;-)
There is a feature called "Defer Sharing Calculations" which you can enable by submitting a case to support which is not very well known, but actually saved me from going insane!
My problem:
updating the user roles through dataloader for all users, but getting time outs because of all the automatic sharing calculations and doing it one by one would have taken me a month!! It took 20 minutes for updating only 1 user.
But this feature saved the day!
I searched the web for a solution and couldn't find anything, I called some consultants without luck and finally, after 2 months I stumbled on this non-standard feature. That's why I wrote a post about my situation and this feature, so that everybody would be aware that it exists in case you would come across the same situation.
