I'm studying Salesforce Identity and have this scenario.  ACME uses a LDAP directory for its partner users.  How to set up SSO to support the following use cases: 

 

(1) Create new users for new partners in LDAP and Salesforce.  A partner lead is converted to partner account and contact.

(1.1) How to send user info to LDAP?  It takes a custom integration, right? 

(1.2) How to make sure the password is in LDAP not Salesforce? We need a custom registration form integrated with LDAP, right? 

 

(2) New partner contacts can be added. Then they need to register as community users.   

(2.1) We need the custom integration in (1.1) and the custom registration form in (1.2), right? (2.2) If they register with a Salesforce registration handler, how would their credentials get into LDAP? 

(3) De-provision users once a partner become inactive in Salesforce.  

(3.1) We can use an Apex trigger to deactivate a user in Salesforce. Is there any complication here? 

(3.2) It take a custom integration to deactivate a user in LDAP, right?

 

(4) Does OKTA or Ping Federate automate any use case? If yes, I'd appreciate to get the references to learn how they work.

CTA Pro Tip Number 10

 

So my final tip in the 10 tip series are a couple of less technical pointers for the review board:

 

(1) Fill the judges with the confidence that if they were not able to continue on a project and you had to replace them, then you'd do a smashing job.

(2) Be slick, professional and knowledgable in your presentation. Use the 3-4 months before to board to have a solid presentation approach nailed. Know your 10-11 slides, and know exactly what you are going to say in each word. Don't just know the buzzwords but understand them as well.

(3) Don't get flustered. It is easy sometimes when we see a challenge that looks difficult to get flustered and convince our minds that we cannot solve it. Be calm, thinking calm and solution calm - you will land upon an answer.

(4) Sometimes there isn't a right or wrong answer in a key area, but make sure you can justify your solution choice. This is particularly important when making a single or multi org decision in your solution as the rest of your solution will no doubt hang on it (Role Hierarchy, Sharing especially). So choose a route wisely, and frame your jusitification and solution around it. Try not to do any last minute major changes in your solutioning as that will eat up your time and your mental sanity.

(5) Balance PPT vs Hand drawing. I discovered that I was really quick at creating PPT slides with tables and text, but quicker at drawing data models on paper - so consider what balance works for you.

 

So finally, I'd like to say a best of luck to everyone who is on this journey and wishes to continue in the future. Stay the course. The CTA is not about the badge of honour, but about the learning and knowledge journey that you underdake... What makes a great architect is one that continues to learn, grow and solution wisely for the customers...

    Agree with all those points, 3,4,5 especially. My first attempt I wasted half my prep time with the sample deck which already had someone else's content in (that was different to my solution) and I never recovered from the time lost. Also if you have any weaknesses you know about, get hands on experience of them rather than learning to draw the right pictures (e.g. complex sharing/TM2, Oauth complexities, multi-org, SSO etc)

CTA Pro Tip Number 9

 

For today's tip I come back to the topic of Mobile. It's great to know the difference between Native, Hybrid and HTML5 based mobile applications. You must be very clear on which approach is preferred in your solution, and be able to very clearly justify why you picked a certain approach. Consider things like: build time, build cost, roll-out time, use of Salesforce Mobile SDK, cross platform compatability, availability of skilled resources to build the applications, impact on delivery schedule and offline capability. Most importantly, your choice justification should be based on specific points which you gathered from the scenario and not just a blanket recommendation.

CTA Pro Tip Number 7

 

A very important point, which I cannot stress enough is make every effort to ensure your data model is right in the review board. Relationship choices, record owners, role hierarchy and OWDs can make a material impact to the strength and validity of your data model and overall solution. If there is any one tip that I would mark as #1 it would be this. Be a modelling champ, your solution rests on it.

Hi,

 

CTA Review Board now being completely online, what would be the best way to practice the diagrams. Can i draw them on a paper while on video and still share with the panel? Or it has to be only on PPT since everything is online? Appreciate your response. Thanks!

Think of the CTA Review Board as a decathlon, and each of the rubric categories (System Architecture, Security, Data, Integration, Solution Architecture, Dev Lifecycle, Communication) as the events.  How do you win the decathalon?  You train for individual events.  To this end, I am putting together a set of "2 minute drills" that help you test your knowledge on individual rubric categories with a short scenario.  This is the intro video - all the vids are on the same YouTube channel - I will post intros and links to them here as well.  Have fun, good luck!

In between other things, I've been working pretty hard on mock review board exams. How big a jump is it from exams to the CTA review board? I've spent the last 4 weeks finding out so I could share it with you. Hope this helps.
