I am just starting out with my first certification, but I like to plan ahead. Is it easy to find a job with an admin certification, or would it be more prudent to volunteer for a while?

 You can start by looking for opportunities through Salesforce Trailblazer Community Groups, especially local Nonprofit/Education groups, and Salesforce’s Volunteer Your Salesforce Expertise resources. Salesforce also has guidance on finding pro-bono projects through organizations such as Catchafire and other volunteer networks. 

In parallel, I’d recommend building 2–3 small projects in a Trailhead Playground/Developer Org—such as a Help Desk, Sales Pipeline, or Nonprofit CRM—and adding them to your resume/portfolio. This gives you something concrete to discuss in interviews. 

The key is to combine certification + hands-on projects + community/networking rather than waiting for your first job to gain experience.
