Report on Leads AND Account activities

I would like to report on both activities with Leads AND Accounts in one report. I know there is the standard Task & Events

report type but I need to bring in some custom fields.

but I want that all in ONE report. Is is possible to build such a report type? Basically mimic the standard Tasks & Events report type. 

I tried a joined report but there are no common fields (even though there fields that are the same in both reports). It just doesn't work.  Also I hate joined reports :-)
