I am using Tableau Desktop 2020.3.1, using a live connection to access an Excel file stored on BOX.

The file is quite simple (I've provided a rough sample):

The Day is a date, pre-populated. Note future dates are there, but there is no data associated with them.

Earl, Wonton, and Sammy are my cats. A "1" indicates they have spent time on my lap that day.

To assist with my visualizations, I have PIVOTED the cats (Earl, Wonton, Sammy).

I have a LIVE connection to the file.

Issue: My vizzes refuse to refresh or update after I've added new data. For example, were I to enter the details for 11/12/2020 and 11/13/2020, the results remain the same as they were on 11/11/2020.

How can I get my Box connection to properly update (without changing how my file is organized)? Why am I seeing this type of unexpected behavior?

If I go into the viz and REPLACE the data with a new instance of the file, the new data can be seen-- but as you can imagine this is not a very equitable solution.

Thanks for your help!

Zak Geis (not sure if he is a member here) helped me find a resolution to this: by switching the connection to Extract (and saving it), Refresh all Extracts will properly replace the data.
