When creating/modifying a data source in Tableau Desktop if you select Extract there is an option to add a filter for the extract when you click 'edit'. There is also a data source filter that you can adjust by clicking 'add'.

Are these doing the same thing? Are they different? If I set a filter for one should I apply the same filter to the other? Same difference either way?

Tableau Desktop - Data source extract filter vs filter, what is the difference?

when you use a data source filter the data is loaded and then the filter is applied - with a data extract filter is filter as the data is extracted like when using a where clause

    hope that answers your question

    Thanks
