Hi all, Newbie here, working in Tableau Desktop (2021.4)
I have a "master file" with two tabs: 'master organization codes' (which acronym to use for which long name orgs) and 'master dates' (translate a specific date into calendar year, fiscal year, or program year).
Then I have a set of files with program data that contain the data for my visualizations. All program data files have an [organization field] (may use the acronym or one of the long names) and a [date field] (typically a day that needs to be grouped as calendar year or fiscal year or program year).
I bring in the 'master organization codes' table in the data source view and I can establish relationships with all the related [organization fields] from the program files (so I can render in Tableau the normalized acronym instead of the various long names that programs are used to using) . What I do not know is how to do the same for the 'master dates' table. So far I have only been able to establish separate relationships from the 'master dates' table to each individual program file, thus duplicating the 'master dates' table for as many program tables are in the data model and seeing it as "dates", 'dates1", "dates2", etc.
This does not seem efficient, and I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong.
Can anyone help me understand how to set up these relationships?

@Marina Kittel I'm having trouble visualizing what the data structure looks like. Could you maybe add a screenshot of what all of the joins look like? Maybe also provide some Excel docs with one or two dummy lines of data to show what the program data looks like.
And I'm also a little unclear on why you are joining to a master date list at all. Could you explain what the desired end result is?
