Tableau Desktop/Reader files crash when connected to the internet?

Hi,

I'm a Tableau dev who has sent workbooks to a number of colleagues. I've developed in 2019.1 but exported as 2018.1 as that's our server version.

When my colleagues open these workbooks in Reader/Desktop, sometimes they crash. However, when they disconnect from the internet and open the workbook there are no latency issues and no crashing issues.

Is this expected behaviour? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent it from crashing?
