The current personalization setup for a Client uses Salesforce Data Cloud to capture and unify real-time web interactions and build audience segments. These segments are shared via MuleSoft APIs and consumed by Sitecore Personalize to deliver personalized content on the website. However, this multi-system setup is causing latency issues, making it difficult to deliver real-time personalization effectively.

We are now exploring other architectural options. One possibility is to adopt Marketing Cloud Personalization (MCP). Since the main reason for using Data Cloud was to track interactions and create segments, we need to assess whether it’s still practical to keep Data Cloud for data capture and segmentation, and then activate those segments into MCP for delivering real-time experiences or use MCP itself for both segment creation and activation on the website.

The client’s main use case is updating elements like the homepage hero banner based on a customer’s past website behavior.

The answer would depend on the type of personalization logic and types you need to drive and future platform strategy.

One option is MCP as you mentioned and in this case that is a powerful platform for real time Personalization with built-in engagement tracking and segmentation solution. The con - it’s is only maintained, not expanded by Salesforce.

As you already have Data Cloud, a better option might be to check the new Salesforce Personalization tool, that is successor to MCP built on the Data Cloud and very actively developed. It’s not yet as powerful as MCP, but will let you leverage your current implementation, integrate better into Salesforce CRM, be much more future proof and should deliver standard Personalization use cases without issue.

I would check whether Salesforce Personalization can cover your use cases and how would the cost of Data Cloud + Salesforce Personalization (usage-based pricing) stack against Marketing Cloud Personalization (licence-based pricing), factor in future-proofing and potential expansions into Agentforce, and go from there with decision.
