We have a FLOW (that works 50%) - when a Case is NEWLY Created, there is a DECISION (Sub Type is a certain one) it will AUTO Close the Case.
However, the system has a few seconds delay when populating the Cases in SF - so unless a User enters it right away, the Case stays open.

Can you make sure your flow is set for Actions & Related records (in the start element)?
Also, the history will only show you the minutes, it could be that the type is set by an automation. If it's a flow, you could maybe ensure the one that sets the type triggers before your new flow (that you would need to change so it triggers on update)
