I think that is a pretty basic question, but maybe someone here can help me. Let's say that we have a record in Contact and there is an ETL that runs many times a day and many of those times it UPDATES existing records with the EXACT SAME DATA:
Will the SystemModstamp be updated even if NO DATA has actually being changed if compared to the previous values (like in the example above)? Or is its mechanism a bit smarter and only updates SystemModstamp if the actual value of the fields has changed?

I know this is a little late to the game, but I came across this thread as I was looking for a way to change the SystemModStamp field without firing triggers. I've done some testing and the example of changing "Mary" to "Mary" in the UI will result in the SystemModStamp field being updated. Hope this is of help to someone at some stage.
