Hi nonprofit friends,

My organization is expanding to offer fee-for-service consulting, in addition to the regular program work that we do. Which means that now we want to track revenue from donations, grants, and this fee-for-service work.

Using the Object name Donations is now too specific for our needs, but Opportunities doesn't quite seem right either. Anyone have other names they've come up with for the Opportunity object that incorporates multiple types of revenue common for nonprofits?

Thanks!

I recommend, actually, using "Opportunities." It may not be standard nonprofit parlance (yet), but it's the standard Salesforce parlance.

Though you do have the ability to rename the tab so that your users see "Donations" or some other name, it's going confuse them when they look at any help files or online trainings. You'll then have to translate for them, or never direct them to self-help training.

Better to train them that "Opportunities" is what any revenue-generating records are called in Salesforce. Then you have the ability to have different opportunity record types for each of your revenue streams (donation, grant, fee-for-service...)
