External Chatter Issue

Question

I set up an EXTERNAL chatter user. I went into groups and wanted to invite him into a group. He showed up on the picklist, when i selected him , SF would not allow him into the group. I am the administrator and the group belongs to me.

The invitee received a message from SALESFORCE confiming the invite ALTHOUGH he was unable to POST anything ( perhaps because he was not yet a memberof a group )

Please help .
