I have installed the package in the "Install Apps and Packages in Your Trailhead Playground" and I got the notification it was installed and can see it there now installed, but the challenge keeps saying it is not installed and won't let me complete.

You should recieve the "Approve Third Party Access" pop-up this time. Select "Yes, grant access..." and continue to install. Looks like this;
