Can I please get your thoughts on this as i'm still quite new to salesforce - we are looking to roll out customer numbering and the idea is to take bits of infirmatiion from a prospect or clients record to generate the naming convention.
ie:1. A litter to denote if record is a Customer or Supplier i.e; C
2. Two letters from the billing region of the client - Unites States : ie US
2. 6 Letters from the customer name: The Magic Wand (excluding "The") : Magic W
3. 4 Autogenerated numbers whih will increment with every record : i.e, 0001
So the customer number will be: C-US-MAGIC W-0001
Is there anyway to automate this in Salesforce - Can this be done by a trigger? Will it require some development work? Any ideas of how to get this done?

You can use Process Builder with your formula to update a custom text field with field set to unique so as to prevent duplicates
