Help with displaying a blank monthly value in a dashboard

Question

I'd like to create a dashboard that shows values per month (e.g. numbers of leads generated, number of opportunities created, sales, etc). However, if there is a month which does not have any values (e.g. 0 leads were generated that month), the dashboard graph does not show a zero value, and instead will skip that month. Below is a picture of what I'm referring to:

I've looked around and see that this is a pretty common problem, but haven't been able to find any solution. Can someone help me out here with how they got around this problem?
