Pardot: Why can't I update Default Field ID field?

I had to reconfigure email fields and now I need to update the Default Field ID for email in Pardot, but it's not letting me edit the field ID to map to the appropriate email field. Why can't I edit Default Field ID field?

    Pardot's Field IDs are not like the Salesforce API names. Pardot's cannot be edited.

     

    You want to make the Pardot field for Email just look at a different Salesforce field?

     

    You cannot do that. The Pardot field for Email is mapped to the Salesforce default Email field. And it cannot be changed.
