Field Dependency - Custom Fields as Dependent Field

I am trying to create a dependency between our Opportunity Stage (custom picklist) and our Forecast Category (custom picklist). When I go to create the dependency, with the controlling field being the stage, I have very limited options to select (screenshot attached), none of which are Forecast Category. 

 

Is there a reason I cannot select a custom field as the dependent field? Is there a way to create the dependency between these two fields? Field Dependency - Custom Fields as Dependent Field

    Unless they have a legitamte reason for doing it this way (and I honestly can't think of one) the first part of my overhaul would be getting rid of these custom fields (but that's me) 

     

    Anyway, it soundslike you need to establish a Field Dependancy, and then Map all of the Controlling and Controlled picklist values
