Lookup Relationship to Existing Record

Question

I've created a custom object that contains a look up relationship to the Account record. The custom objects are a finite set of known items and they will all be created in salesforce. Because of this, the normal user flow when making the association between my custom object and an account will not be to create a NEW object. The object already exists. I need an "Add" option from the Account's Related Lists that lets me "lookup" the custom objects and relate them to the account.

What is the best way to accomplish this task? I realize that the normal flow is to work from from the custom object and update its account name.

Steve thanks for the pragmatic response. We don't have a many-to-many relationship, but I'd rather optimize for the user experience and simplicity of implemenation than data model accuracy.
