invalid email address

I opened a lead. Converted to an opportunity and account. There is a contact . The email address of my target is in the opportunity. I want to do an activity involving sending an email but I keep getting the same problem see text at bottom copied from salesforce screen The email address is correct. It is the same address as in the opportunity. It works from outlook!!!!  It is searchable on the email address lookup field when inputting email addresses on salesforce. The system keeps telling me it is invalid. IT AINT!!!!!

 

Updating the email address as suggested in the error message does not work

 

I have sent emails before from salesforce but I am a new user.

 

Any suggestions folks?

     You can try adding https:// in the beginning.
