When using filters on search it's not giving all rthe results

Enter the account name then goto contacts then click on show filters then type the mailing city.  Only 2 results appear when in fact it should be 17, I checked the data and it's good.  What am I missing?

    also be sure to checkif there is a slight mispelling in the mailing city on the other records. it can be as simple as an added space
