Scenario: When a user pushes out the Close Date on an open opportunity, Management would like to require a reason for the date change.  First thought is a simple validation rule and a text field called Change reason.  Can't change the date if Change reason is blank.  Problem is date can change multiple times so make solution above a one trick pony.  Still thinking this one thru, but any ideads would be helpful.

Thanks

How about having something like two date fields. One that is the official Close Date that cannot be changed by the 'user' in the above scenario. Then another that would be something like  'Close Date Change' which the above user could change. This would prompt an email to both the user and the manager. One to notify the user to email a reason to the manager and another to notify the manager of the proposed change.
