Managing different types of leads

Question

We want to be able to add a collection of leads but categorise them slightly differently (call them B Type leads). They will still follow the same basic processes as our standard leads (A Type), but I just need to be able to show a couple of unique fields on the page layout. The B Type lead will only be populated by bulk upload using the data loader.

Everybody needs to be able to view both A & B Types but when users add a new standard lead, I want them to be automatically adding it to the A Type.

Is it best to create a new lead process and page layout for B Type? How do I prevent the option for B Type coming up when usuers add a new A Type lead? We currently don't have any different lead record types created.

Hi Sara,

The best bet for your scenario would be move with Record types & your concern regarding to prevent User from creating the Lead using B record type can be overcome by removing the B record type from all Profile exists in the system ,this way they can view the Lead but not create . (Make sure you have the right level of sharing setting for all the Leads I.e should be atleast read only for B created Leads)
