We just recently started integrating Salesforce with our backend ERP system and our API records created are beign logged under our developer's license / account that created the package.  What are the best practices for this?  Did anyone purchase a license just for API usage so records would be created under "API User" instead of the developer?

Thanks!

We have not yet integrated with our backend ERP, but as an IT admin I would highly suggest that the following:

Purchase a separate license for a user account that will be used as an " API service account" to handle these API calls. If you can, limit it to only API usage for the functions it needs to perform (ie. create/read/update/delete only on the objects it needs to).  Create a completely unique profile for it if you have to.  The password for this user account should be kept safe and probably not known by the developer, but known only by your IT Admins.

This way, when/if the developer leaves the company, you can still safely inactive their account while still maintaining any and all activity by this user.
