Picklist field error on validation rule

Question

So my rule is supposed to say, if record type = X, education brand support field (which is a picklist) is required. If record type = Z, sales brand support field (which is a picklist) is required.

Here is my formula:

OR(

( RecordTypeId ="012F0000000mwOv") && ISBLANK( Education_Brand_Support__c),

(RecordTypeId ="012F0000000mwOq")&& ISBLANK( Sales_Brand_Support__c ))

I'm getting the syntax error: Error: Field Education_Brand_Support__c is a picklist field. Picklist fields are only supported in certain functions

How can I get around this?

Great start! All you need to do is to wrap the Picklist Field in a TEXT function before you apply the ISBLANK.

Like this:

OR(
    RecordTypeId ="012F0000000mwOv" && ISBLANK(TEXT(Education_Brand_Support__c)),
    RecordTypeId ="012F0000000mwOq" && ISBLANK(TEXT(Sales_Brand_Support__c))
)

+1 Deepak    Since a Record can only be of 1 Record Type, I would break Deepaks VR into 2 Rules.  That will allow you to place the error message on the empty field, instead of having a "One Size Fits All" error message at the top of the page (like this)
