The larger question is what is the purpose of this information and where is the appropriate place in the CRM for this go?
In my previous Salesforce.com life, one Sales Manager had every conceivable question regarding the sales process on his page layout, even, "If a rogue elephant comes in the room, what is the escape plan?" Do you know how frequently these questions were answered? 0% of the time. It was so cumbersome, and not necessary to get the opportunity in the system (as they weren't mandatory) that no one bothered.
How many items are we talking about? If it's more than 3 I would advise against putting them on the Layout Page. Perhaps a document that a person filled out and attached to the Lead/Opportunity would be better.
In my experience, the Sales Process and the CRM process are often merged, and usually ignored. It just makes your pages look klugy and ugly, and if you make it mandatory for adding an Opportunity, they'll hear the howls of your users in Tibet.
