My non-profit sells professional services to educational institutions. We regularly receive foundation grants that we in turn allocate to our client's. We want to keep track of this in Quotes/Opportunities. Example: if customer buys $1,000 worth of services, and sales rep allocates $100 from Grant A and $200 from Grant B, then Quote net amount is $700. We can discount service products in the simplest fashion, but doing so fails to produce structured data (e.g. grant allocations by grant, grant allocations by account) required for reporting and accounting system integration. My idea: create a product for each grant (list price = $0.00) and have sales reps discount them by desired allocation amount. Other ideas?

You might want to consider having a quote line field of picklist, expose it in the quote line editor drawer, and have a price rule based off the quote line picklist, assigning an amount / percent off to a price waterfall field of your choice. You could get fancy and have a field on the account if you always want them to get the Grant, have account object records with fields for this and have cross object formula helper fields in addition to the price rules, quote gets from account, price rule tests the field on the quote header, and price rule reacts to pre-select the grant on quote line.
