My company utilizes Products and Price Books which I have not previously worked with. They have revised products and pricing and would like me to update that in Salesforce. I am trying to determine what the best practices are. Should new records be created for updates or is it ok to update existing Products and Pricebooks? What is the impact on Opportunities for updating existing records? Is the best method for creating and updating these records done through data loader? Any additional insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have tested updating price of an existing price book entry. Salesforce remembered the old value for the open and historical opportunities, but for newly created ones it used the updated price.

But if possible, I agree with Michelle....it is better to deactivate all out of date products/price books and create new ones.
