We currently have a Partner Community and wonder if going to lightning will change that community template. ##LightningLounge

I'm assuming you mean changing to Lightning Experience for your internal (sales cloud, service cloud) users? If so, then there's no need to worry: Lightning Experience and Lightning Community (as well as legacy tabs & visualforce communities) are completely independent.
